The sedimentary sequence as preserved in the Lower Oak Hill Group resembles that of Middle Miocene rocks on the Red Sea continental margin of Egypt which were deposited during periods of alternating prograding-fluvial and tranegressivecarbonate sedimentation in response to both local tectonism and regional sea level fluctuations.
