Assessment of Geothermal Resources of the United States-1975

Basic Information
Author: Williams, D.L., Editor
Description:USGS Circular 726. Over the past 10 years, various individuals and organizations have made estimates of the geothermal resources of the United States (White, 965; Grossling, 1972; Rex and Howell, 1973; Hickel, 1973; Natl. Petrol. Council, 1973). These estimates have differed by several orders of magnitude. This wide variation has been due in part to lack of or differing assumptions regarding technology and economic conditions, but much of the uncertainty has been caused by an inadequate understanding of the nature and extent of the resources themselves. This assessment of geothermal resources differs from previous resource statements in that it tabulates each identified system or subdivision of the major resource categories of table 1, listing the parameters assumed in calculating volumes, heat contents, and recoverabilities.
